BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO THE SHEN FAMILY

The Shen Family ancestral hometown (老家)is in Zhejiang Province (浙江省), Tong Xiang County (桐乡县), WuZhen Town(乌镇), Lu To Village where the Shen Family ran the wok business.  About 2000 years ago, the Shen (沈) family artisans -- were bestowed the honor of serving as the official wok smelters of China.   Generations later, in 1861 the Shen Family smelters of the Yichang Workshop celebrated their 100th anniversary by making a giant wok as tribute to Emperor Tongzhi of the Qing Dynasty.

In 1945 Chiaching and Kiahsuang Shen traveled from Kuming China to Calcutta India, and three months later on Bombay India to New Jersey, and eventually settled permanently in the U.S.

In 19xx Shen Jia Xin  traveled from Shanghai (?), China to ( ________ ) England, left her son there, and returned to China.

Will add information about the turbulent years under Mao and how the Shen family ended up in Tianjin and Beijing.
